When Laura Muldoon talks about why she joined Nua Group nine years ago, she doesn’t start with projects or titles. She talks about people.
The chance to work alongside smart, supportive colleagues. The opportunity to spend more time solving real client problems and less time navigating internal bureaucracy. And the flexibility to continue building a meaningful career while raising a family.
Over the past nine years, that combination has allowed Laura to build a career that has stretched far beyond her original compensation roots. From job architecture and HR operations to technology implementation and process design, she has never been afraid to tackle something new if it helps a client move forward.
As Laura celebrates her 9-year Nuaversary, she reflects on what first drew her to Nua, what has kept her here, and why she is still excited about what comes next.
What helped you decide to join Nua nine years ago, and what were you most excited about?
A few things stood out right away. First, the client focus. Nua was built around the idea that clients come first, and that shows up in how we spend our time. Low overhead, minimal internal process, hours filled with real work. That matters to me.
Second, the people. For me, Nua has always been about the team. Bright, passionate, fun — people I genuinely enjoy working with and learn from every day.
And third — something I don't take lightly — the flexibility for working parents. I'm the primary caregiver for my kids, and Nua has made it possible for me to grow in my career, work with incredible clients, and show up in a challenging environment without having to choose. I didn't see that path at bigger firms. Working parents have a lot to give, and Nua gives us the chance to do that.
What felt different about working at Nua compared to what you'd done before?
I came in with solid experience at a bigger consulting firm, but it was different at Nua. There wasn't a rigid, prescribed way to deliver. That was actually freeing. We get to bring our expertise and find the right solution for each client — not just the standard one. We can be scrappy without compromising the integrity of the work. We can think outside the box, respond to what's happening in the market, and bring in new ideas. Clients feel that difference, and they appreciate it.

What do you think helps you build strong, lasting client relationships?
I work with clients like I'm part of their team. What keeps them up at night keeps me up at night. We're solving problems together — not just delivering a project and moving on. That partnership is what makes the relationships stick.
What are you looking forward to next?
There’s a lot to look forward to! HR is evolving fast, and AI is bringing a whole new dimension to the work, making things more complex and more exciting at the same time. I'm very curious to see how it all unfolds and what it means for how we deliver for clients.
Personally, I'm also looking forward to continuing to grow my capabilities across the HR function. I started in Compensation, which gave me a strong foundation, and Nua has given me the opportunity to take that foundation into HR Operations, areas like process engineering, knowledge management, case management, and technology implementation. Because we're always solving for the client, I've been pushed to stretch in ways I wouldn't have otherwise. I'm excited to keep doing that.

What has remained consistent throughout is her willingness to roll up her sleeves, figure things out, and care deeply about helping clients succeed. Whether she’s solving a complex problem, learning something new, or supporting a client through a difficult challenge, Laura brings the same thoughtful, practical approach to the work.
We’re incredibly grateful for everything Laura has contributed to Nua over the last nine years and excited to see where her curiosity and drive take her next.
